Curtis Charles Bailey

Curtis Charles Bailey passed away August 2, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Curt was born on June 18, 1951 to Thorson and Sharon Bailey in Chico Calif.
In 1973 Curt enlisted in the United States Army serving in Korea with the Second Infantry as a journalist photographer. In 1981 Curt began to work for the City of Chico in Parks maintenance....working in the Chico Parks he saw a need for vandal proof fixtures. Having a creative mind and liking to work with his hands, Curt began Vandal Stop Products. Over time he invented and patented many vandal proof products for parks, rest stops, bars US Navy Aircraft Carriers, anywhere there was a need.
Curt was very proud of his Chico heritage which began when his Great Grandfather Charles Wicks Houghton settled in Chico in the early 1900's. Curt continually looked for ways to serve his community and in recent years by volunteering his time to maintain the landscaping at the Chico Veterans Memorial in the Chico City Plaza. He also worked in the offices of Jesus Center and served meals there with his First Christian Church. Curt was known as a man with a big generous heart, a sense of humor and beautiful smile by his family and friends.
Curt was preceded in death by his mother Sharon (2005) and most recently by his father T.W. (Tom) Bailey (2015). Curt is survived by his son's Richard and Brady Smith both of Nampa Idaho, brothers Dan, Ward, Thor and sister Betsy (Bailey) Adamis all of Chico, and many nieces and nephews. Curt also left behind his loyal dog and faithful companion —Sir Joseph.
A memorial service is to be held Sept 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at The First Christian Church; 295 E. Washington Ave. Chico Cal. Donations may be made to The Wounded Warriors or the Chico Veterans Memorial Chico City.

Curt and I met when we were about 5 years old our Grandmothers lived next door to each other. When I moved to Chico we lived with my Grandmother for 5 years and during that time Curt's family remolded their home on Bidwell Ave so during the construction they lived next door. My sister Koni and his sister Betsy were best friends. The Bailey's had horses and lived by a large orchard where I learned to ride horses at his home and our Mother's worked on the Almond Huller together at the Hill Ranch just down the road from Curt's home. I remember swimming in the creek and floating on rafts in early summer before the dam at 1 mile was installed.
